EXTENDED PROFILE
» APPEARANCE: Allison is a fragile looking young woman with an open, emotional face and a very slender frame. Her appearance is deceptive, however, because those wide, expressive dark eyes can harden easily, and that delicate frame is, with a closer look, the body of a dancer: lacking in a woman's curves or the heavier definition of muscle, but honed to athletic perfection. She has dark hair worn just past shoulder length, carrying a natural wave and curl. She favors a lot of Bohemian styles in the way she dresses, such as floral prints, lace, and peasant blouse, but balances it with a modern touch in the form of skater skirts, jeans, sweaters, and practical jackets. She moves with confidence and good posture: as an experienced markswoman, she habitually carries herself back straight and shoulders back, and will often settle into a potentially defensive posture if she feels threatened. (PB: Crystal Reed)
» PERSONALITY: Allison is both soft spoken and strong willed by nature. Left to her own devices, she’s a very gentle young woman: kind, friendly, and sweet...as normal and nice a girl as they come, one devastated by having hit a stray dog that ran in front of her car, but resourceful enough to get it to the vet and see it's properly cared for. It's her first in depth interaction with Scott McCall as well, within the series, and even as Scott does his best to reassure and care for the visibly rattled Allison, she bemoans her own tears and shattered nerves, seeing her compassion and sensitivity as a weakness. The strong will paired with that softer side, however, comes into play with her passion, adding a slightly volatile side to her personality that fosters a rebellious streak. In Season One, we see it come into play more than once as she repeatedly flouts her parents authority: she sneaks out of the house to go on a double date with Scott, her best friend Lydia, and Lydia's boyfriend, Jackson. She also ditches school on her birthday at Scott's encouragement to enjoy herself where she would otherwise dread celebrating because she's older than her classmates, and even openly admits to stealing condoms from her aunt in hopes of having sex with her boyfriend. There are some instances, such as ditching on her birthday, that eat at her conscience, because at the end of the day she prides herself on being the good child her family can trust, but she will not hesitate to break the rules if it's for good reason, such as spending time with Scott and Lydia, and later, when her family learns Scott is a werewolf, seeing him in secret against her family's wishes. It causes a great deal of conflict, even endangers Scott's life later when her mother discovers the truth and tries to kill him, but she learns over the course of the series that loyalty to family is a broad concept. In the end, trusting herself, and her pack, are the best moral compass she can possess.
Though she is primarily motivated by emotion and thinks with her heart early on, training as a hunter has taught Allison to think more clinically and rationally. It’s a skill she struggles with, as it goes against her basic nature, which we see in her first training scenario in Season Two: she reacts to abduction with fear and with panic, but when she realizes she's being schooled as a hunter, being drawn further into a life she doesn't want for herself, she responds with cold precision, qualities that are fostered by the likes of her grandfather, and nurtured by her her training as an archer. The laser focus she gives a target, she must often give to controlling her emotions and presenting a strong face as both the future head of the Argent family, and the unofficial soldier of the McCall pack. She walks a fine line, such as when she has to force herself to stay calm to sew up a wound on Scott that won't heal, but can't thread the needle because she's so upset, but as in that situation, she finds her balance, and tackles most every situation the same way: she takes aim and fires, whether she's threading a needle or putting an arrow into a werewolf during a brawl at an abandoned bank, preceding Scott's injury.
Despite her ability to present a strong face, when all is said and done Allison wears her heart on her sleeve. It’s this open display of her love and her loyalty, as well as its depth, that is one of her greatest strengths and her greatest weaknesses. Her own grandfather goes so far as to use it against her, manipulating her grief over her mother’s passing to turn her into a weapon, and to turn her against everyone she cares about, including her own father and the boy she loves. That same open devotion, however, later plays a critical role in saving her father, Stiles’s father, and Scott’s mother from the machinations of the Darach, when she risks her life as a surrogate sacrifice, and admits to everyone, including Scott, that she’s beginning to develop feelings for packmate Isaac Lahey. Her open devotion is never clearer, and never a greater shield than the night she stands with her friends against the Oni, controlled by the Nogitsune wearing Stiles Stilinski's face...and ultimately proves to be that same great weakness when she takes a shot to save Isaac's life, losing her own when an Oni skewers her on its katana blade.
This constant balancing act between being human and being a soldier presents us with a more guarded Allison in Season 3 overall, but the one thing that proves to be her guiding light in all things is her sense of loyalty. As a human in a werewolf pack, it’s made her a valuable part of Scott’s group, but as the leader of a powerful and influential hunting family, it’s also a relentless source of conflict. Despite her opposing views on werewolves, she loves her family and feels real guilt at betraying them and the legacy her father holds so dear. She refuses, however, to turn her back on her friends, who have stood behind her at the risk of their own lives, unlike her own blood. She finds a balance in changing the Code, one she and her father can follow without having to target anyone who isn't doing harm to another, but finds that Code challenged more than once. Most obviously, she struggles with it when Stiles, one of her dearest friends, begins committing heinous acts under the influence of the Nogitsune, but another can be found in dealing with one of the pack's best resources and biggest hardships: Peter Hale. Though the man can't be trusted, he proves useful...and he's also Derek's uncle. By the middle of Season 3B, Derek is a steadfast ally of the pack, if not a member outright. As such, Peter benefits from Derek's continued need for his knowledge and tenuous lack of ill will...so when he manipulates Lydia into a meeting to utilize her power as a Banshee, Allison goes along to protect her from any ill intentions Peter may have for her and, rather cheerfully, is later forced to use her tazer when he makes a grab for Lydia during the encounter. She keeps a level head during the entire incident, and shows open eagerness to take Peter out, but more than once she simply grabs Lydia by the hand and starts pulling her towards the door, eager to flee from the man who not only tried to turn her best friend, but killed Allison's aunt...or so she believes at the time.
This balancing act has also tested Allison in the most personal areas of her life, forcing her to end her relationship with Scott when her rage and grief nearly drove her to murder and worse, and later forced her to acknowledge her growing feelings for Isaac in the interest of saving the lives of their parents. The endless struggle of balancing her love of family with her love of friends and the love of another boy takes its toll, but the struggle has shaped who she is...because she has no one left to call family except her father, who loves her unconditionally and fights his own battle against inherited prejudices for her sake, and would not have survived her trial by fire if not for her friends, who have accepted her even at her absolute worst.
Through it all, one characteristic of Allison’s personality has come to define who she is: violence. The shadow world that the Argent hunters live in, the often cruel and savage path they follow...despite the light in Allison’s heart and soul, there is a streak of that darkness within her. She’s more than a dutiful daughter and a strong young woman, there is a part of her that enjoys it, a part that is never clearer than when she hunts down Vernon Boyd and Erica Reyes at her father's side, gleefully putting arrow after arrow into Boyd until Chris Argent finally shoots out her bow to make her stop. The weapons, the fighting, even the blood...Allison’s discovery of her family secret has been a journey in which she’s found that her legacy is part of her nature. Though she has tried to fight it, and even went so far as trying to leave the life for good, the dedication to the family Code and her own inherent streak of savagery would not allow for it. For this reason, she’s learned to accept that inner darkness, and apply it to a higher purpose: the new Code that gives her a positive avenue through which to channel that ingrained bloodlust, a new path through the darkness devoted not to the hunt and the kill, but to the protection of those who cannot defend themselves against the creatures of the night.
» BACKGROUND: Allison Argent was raised in a stable, if nomadic home. Her father is a firearms dealer, and his work, as far as she knows in Season 1, requires him to travel a lot for business deals and meetings. As a result, Allison has repeated a year of high school due to moving so often. Prior to her arrival in Beacon Hills, she lived in San Francisco for more than a year, which is quite a long time for the Argents. In her travels, she studied gymnastics for eight years, and archery to a degree that puts her skill level at that of “perfect shot,” as stated by Scott McCall in “More Bad Than Good.”
Early on, Allison became fast friends with Lydia, and the two eventually become best friends. At the same time, a budding romance with Scott took flight when he charmed her by offering her a pen, not realizing his wolf hearing let him listen to her complain about a lack of one outside the building.
Allison’s knowledge of the supernatural came through her aunt, Kate. She struggled to come to terms with this new knowledge, and later found out that Scott was a werewolf at the winter formal, when he transformed in front of her. With a kiss from her, his wolf visage vanished, and in that moment she confessed she loved him.
Though her parents forbade her from seeing Scott, the two dated in secret, struggling with keeping their parents off their scent, as well as her grandfather, Gerard Argent, who arrives for Kate’s funeral early in Season 2. Allison even goes so far as to see another boy publicly to keep her family from finding out about Scott, but the ruse ended quickly. Inevitably, her mother found out, and later tried to kill Scott.
When Derek bites her mother during his struggle to save Scott, it compels her to end her own life rather than become a werewolf. Her death leaves Allison griefstricken, and through Gerard’s manipulation, Allison’s grief turns to cold fury. Trained by her father and understanding the expectations of leadership that have been placed upon her, Allison loses herself in the hunt, and brutally assaults Derek’s pack, who are also her schoolmates. Once she learns Gerard used her to get the wolf’s bite from Derek because he was dying of cancer, she breaks up with Scott because of her actions, and spends four months in France learning more about her legacy.
In Season 3A, Allison and her father have moved to a smaller apartment, swearing to leave the past behind them. The appearance of the Darach, however, puts an end to their retirement from the supernatural world, and by the end of the season, father and daughter have pledged themselves to a new code: We Protect Those Who Cannot Protect Themselves.
Season 3B challenges that new code, pitting her against one of her best friends as he is taken over by a demonic fox spirit known as the Nogitsune. Allison arrives in game during the events of 3B, episode 23, Insatiable.
» OTHER: Allison dies at her moment of entry into the game, and she is well aware of her own death. Coming to terms with that will be a factor in her interactions with others, especially early in game. Also: no worries about keeping quiet if you're a canon castmate: she knows. :P
